Hello fellas, how are you going?
With the release of the final demo of BrazSonic 20XX, I had the opportunity to register the game in the 20th edition of SAGE – Sonic Amateur Game Expo, an international online event that takes place annually, promoting fan games and other fan productions, indie games, mods, and rom-hacks from different Sonic communities and internet game creation.
This year, SAGE is going to happen on september 5th!
How about BrazSonic on SAGE?
BrazSonic even had an entry in SAGE 2009, with a demo of the cancelled BrazSonic 2, with a one-level DEMO. At the time, BraSonic has been “renamed” as BrazSonic, for English speakers. Technically, that DEMO was released in a rush, and consequently had a lot of issues and criticism. This old Demo, you still can find here and all the full story from BrazSonic 2 as well.
Now BrazSonic is back, this time as BrazSonic 20XX, with the latest playable demo in 3 languages: English, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. These past few months have been very good for improving the game with bug and issues fixing, improving gameplay physics, and advancing some things that will be in the full game, like the new Mission Mode and some Extras. Below is an exclusive trailer in English for the SAGE:
I have a lot of gratitude for the Discord community for beta-testing and my friend Ana for reviewing the translations of the game’s dialogues. More details you can check in Game Credits.
I know it’s kinda early but I advanced everything to keep ready for having #brazsoniconSAGE!
Tell us more about the SAGE…
SAGE, Sonic Amateur Game Expo, born in the Sonic Fangames HQ message boards, opened the opportunity to bring together amateur and related Sonic game developers to expose their creations to the world of a more centralized one, similar to E3 (Electronic Entertainment Expo).
The event itself usually works as if it were a virtual fair, with “booths”; individual pages of registered games; community channels: IRC, forums, Discord; streaming of games, and also interviews with creators and personalities; game content contests and fan arts, and more.
Of the productions that stood out the most throughout the editions of the event, both in popularity and in the technical part, we have some notable examples such as:
- Sonic Time Attacked: a milestone from the 00s;
- Sonic Robo Blast 2: an excelent Doom mod as a 3d Sonic game, the community is very engaged;
- Project Mettrix: a multiplatform project, born as a MSDOS game;
- Retro Sonic: a multiplatform fangame that made Sonic Mania become a reality;
- Sonic Fusion: a Sonic Advance styled game with ton of playable characters and unique skills;
- Sonic Infinity: a very nice Sonic 3d game engine;
- Sonic Before the Sequel: from the same creator of the Spark the Electric Jester series.
There were cases of recognition, such as original productions like Freedom Planet and Spark the Electric Jester that became commercial indie games; and best of all, the game dev Christian Whitehead who ended up being hired by SEGA and was present in the best projects of the company: Sonic 1, 2 and CD remasters and the most notorious, Sonic Mania. All of this have turned inspiration and motivation for the game dev scene.
SAGE even brought in some personalities who worked in the Sonic franchise, such as renowned voice actors Ryan Drummond and Mike Pollock; music producers like Richard Jacques and Jun Senoue; and developers like Chris Senn, who worked on Ooze, Comix Zone and the canceled Sonic X-Treme.
I want to join SAGE, what I can do for that?
